Dick, I am working on presentations to internal executives on the virtues and challenges of both improved authentication and identity management.
This was the first presentation that I have seen that begins to bring some reality to the discussion, and the presentation style was outstanding.
However, every article that I read on this subject fails to do any more than just gloss over the uncomfortable itch that is ‘Authentication’. With stolen identities and other online fraud related crimes the idea of putting all of my eggs in one basket (or even a reduced limited number) is somewhat unnerving UNLESS an effective authentication solution can be found that can cost effectively (for customers and online service providers) secure these digital identities.
How do you see SXIP addressing the protection of a SXIP user centred digital identity?

In the SXIP architecture, authentication does get centralized, which is a tenant of good security, since the user then has the ROI to have strong security at that point. I see two factor authentication become common place when you can reuse that authentication.
Just as photo ID, which requires posession of the ID and a biometric match, dramatically reduced ID fraud when it was introduced, we see the same happening in the digital world when the ROI is high enough that it becomes widely deployed.
Incedible (actually, quite credible) presentation. Convincing, authoritative summary of the issues and emerging solutions. I’ll be watching SXIP.
I downloaded a high-quality wmv version of this presentation, then converted it to mp4 for my mobile appliance (a SE k750i). The style of this presentation is ideally suited as a learning resource for mobile / video-ipod distribution.
Hi dick, first off – fantastic presentation, both the content and the style.
After seeing the OSCON talk and a 3rd year university presentation on J2EE technology fast approaching, our group of software engineers decided to give your unique style of presentation a go. We ended up with 272 slides and a 20min talk prepared in a single evening and it went brilliantly. The head of our department complimented us afterwards on delivering such a captivating talk to an audience which had sat through many other dry presentations that afternoon on very similar topics.
So from the whole of our project group we want to say thank you for showing us the light in regards to what can be achieved in a presentation and wish you the best of luck with Identity 2.0.
